GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the system

I'm using Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela. Cinnamon broke after upgrading itself, so now I cannot login in the desktop environment. As soon as the computer is booted, I'm getting the message that I've been logged in for less than 10 seconds and the details from the ~/.xssession-errors are shown up:

/etc/mdm/Xsession: Beginning session startup... localuser: boris being added to access control list Skript für none unter run_im gestartet. Skript für auto unter run_im gestartet. Skript für default unter run_im gestartet. Segmentation fault Skript für none unter run_im gestartet. Skript für auto unter run_im gestartet. Skript für default unter run_im gestartet. (process: 1703): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the system

I'm only able to shoot some commands in the terminal. Something is really messed up here, I'm not sure if this problem could be resolved. I have tried everything that Google offered to me, tried out all of the solutions that have something to do with this problem, but nothing really helped me.

If there is no way out of this, can someone please tell me how can I backup my personal data from the home directory to an external disk and then perform a new installation?
