tracking downloads with xsend-file

I want to make a download file script, and i need to track all downloads, not to insert a simple row in database, i want to know how many data have been send to the client.

Example: if client download file.zip wich have 100MB, on start i will insert a log in database with client data, but i want to know after 3 minutes, how much from this 100MB client has download, on finish again i will insert a log in db.

This livetracking i want to be on demand, to see only when i acces a page. if someone can give me some directions, and if is posible when client start download to put a speed limit.

Thanks in advance. LE: i will use xsend-file.
