Trying to gain more Unix experience [on hold]

I have not really done any Unix work since university (over ten years ago). I have Ubuntu installed on my PC at home and I have done a little Java development over the years.

How can I get hold of a Unix operating system for learning purposes? I have looked at Solaris (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris10/downloads/index.html), however the license agreement says: " limited License to use the Programs only for the purpose of developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your applications, and not for any other purpose". It says nothing about learning? I have done some Googling and some say you can and some say you can't. What do other developers/engineers do? Can you download Solaris for learning. Is there another operating system that is officially Unix? Is Linux (Ubuntu) enough to gain "Unix" experience.
